There are several instances where you need to make online transactions. Mostly you need to make some online payment to buy a good or service. In this situation the medium you can use is credit card. But how much you can rely on the seller?? What if the seller gets the Credit Card number and misusing it later on??
PayPal is coming into action in this situation. If you’re buying using PayPal then you don’t have to show the credit card number to the seller.
Hell yeah! Don’t worry about it. PayPal is the owner of Ebay.com. So you don’t have to worry they’ll not cheat on you.
When you sign-up for a PayPal account, by default PayPal will ask for your credit card number.
If you missed to add your credit card when you sign-up later you can log into your account and add a credit card.
Yes you can add a debit card to PayPal but make sure your debit card is international debit card. Most of the debit cards given by Sri Lankan banks are local debit cards you can’t use them for internet transaction.
You can go for Sampath Bank’s Web card. When I was studying in school I used Sampath web card as my primary card to make transactions online. Read more about Sampath Web Card.
As long as it’s a valid credit card you can add it to your PayPal account. It can be a HSBC Visa card, Commercial Bank Visa card, Master card or even American Express.
It’ll be activated instantly. You can use it just after creating the PayPal account.
As a buyer you don’t have to pay any commission to PayPal, but those who receive money via PayPal will have to pay commission to PayPal.
Yes
No, you can’t receive money. You can read my work around to check how to receive money via PayPal and get it down to your local bank.

How to Move a Domain from Godaddy
I wanted to renew my domain so I went to Godaddy and tried to pay the money via PayPal. I was totally disappointed that Godaddy will accept only the PayPal accounts which has a credit card attached to it. Though I had some balance in my PayPal account I couldn’t pay the money.
Godaddy is growing, but they are losing their customers because of their poor customer care. Already many people are complaining about the poor hosting service provided by Godaddy. It will take ages to get a support from Godaddy’s customer care.
So I decided to transfer my domain from Godaddy to NameCheap. To initiate the transfer process you need to provide the EPP code to NameCheap. EPP code is a security code which used to identify the owner of the domain.
If you write to Godaddy and asked them for the EPP code, I’m sure they’ll fuss around. You can manually get the EPP code from your Godaddy control panel.
Login to GoDaddy. Go into the domain management section and select your domain. Then you will see down in the bottom left corner of the screen a line that says Authorization Code: Send By Email. Click the Send by Email link and follow the onscreen prompts. Then GoDaddy will send you your EPP code to the email address you have registered as your Technical Contact for your domain. Next I cut and pasted that EPP code into the namecheap.com domain transfer status screen.
After that you need to release the lock in Godaddy, so that it’ll get transfer to the new domain registrar. In my case NameCheap.
This is also a good time to make sure that your domain is unlocked at GoDaddy. When your domain is locked GoDaddy has a good excuse to not let the transfer to go through. After that I got a mail from Godaddy saying that, my request to transfer my domain was received and still I can cancel the transfer and stay with Godaddy. Who cares? Who wanted to stay with loser? In this case you need to approve the transfer in Godaddy control panel. Or else it’ll take more time to transfer from Godaddy to new domain registrar.
If you do as I said above you could transfer your domain in hours. Otherwise it’ll take around 8 days to complete the process.
To force the transfer
- To do this, log in to your GoDaddy account.
- Click on the Domains tab and select Pending Transfers. You should see your site listed.
- Select the check box next to your site and click the Accept/Decline button a the top toolbar.
- Choose accept and click the OK button.
- Now your transfer will continue without waiting the three days!
As mentioned in NameCheap site, these are the main steps for domain transfer!
- Step 1: User adds the domains that needs to be transferred and completes checkout
- Step 2: If EPP Key (Authorization Key) is required, then an email with EPP request is sent. You can also enter the EPP key by going to My Account > Manager Transfers and clicking on the domain just after completing the order without waiting. (To obtain an EPP key, please contact your current registrar.)
- Step 3: If Step 2 is completed or not required, then the domain is submitted for transfer.
- Step 4: An email containing a link is sent to ‘Administrator Email’ for the domain.
- Step 5: If user click on the link and approves the transfer, the domain name is transferred to Us.
- Step 6: If the domain named is ‘locked’ at the losing registrar, the registrar lock should be removed before proceeding with the transfer. An email is sent if the lock needs to be removed.
- Step 7: When the domain is unlocked, the transfer completes successfully
Now I successfully moved my domain to NameCheap. And I was surprised by their customer care. They take only few hours to reply my questions personally. I’m glad I’m with a superb domain registrar, and hope I can spend rest of my life with NameCheap.
GoDaddy go to hell!
PS: It was written few months back, brought it up again thinking that it’ll help more people.
Change Country in PayPal
If you ever want to change your country in PayPal, forget it. You’re not allowed to change the country your account. If you really wanna change your country in profile then you have to close your account and open an account again with the same email address.
Recently one of my friends came back to Sri Lanka after finishing in Masters in USA. He just wanted to change his country to Sri Lanka, so he wrote a letter to PayPal. As I said earlier they want him to close his account and open a new account.
If you wanna know how you can withdraw money from unverified PayPal account, check out my Easy Steps to Withdraw Money to Sri Lankan Bank.
I do apologize
for the inconvenience this issue may have caused you. I understand that you would want ton change the country in your account and add a new credit card on your new account having the Sri Lanka as the country. When changing your street address, you will be unable to change your country of residence, as PayPal currently does not have a feature where you can add addresses from multiple countries on the same PayPal
account. The only way to change the country of residence is to open a new PayPal account, and select your country of residence during the sign up process. Please note that an email address can only be used on one active PayPal account at a time. If you want to use the same email address on your new account, you will first have to close your existing PayPal account
however, since you still have balance in this account, I would suggest that you have to initiate a check withdrawal for you to get the money in your PayPal account balance.Members registered from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Ecuador, India, Jamaica, or Uruguay can request a check to be mailed to the address on their PayPal Account by following these instructions:
1. Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com/
2. Click the ‘Withdraw’ subtab
3. Click ‘Request a check from PayPal’
4. Enter the amount
5. Select the address the check is to be mailed to using the
pull-down menu6. Click ‘Continue’
7. Review the confirmation page
8. Click ‘Submit’
When you request a check, it will take 4-6 business days to process the request and prepare the check to be mailed. Postal delivery time is additional and varies depending on your country of residence.
Please note:
· PayPal has no control over postal delivery times
· Check delivery may be delayed by government holidays in both the
U.S. and in your home country
· PayPal is not responsible for inaccurately entered mailing
informationOnce you receive the check for your withdrawal that is the time to close
the account so that you will be able to use the same email address and
create an account under Sri Lanka. To close your PayPal account, please follow these steps:
Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com/
Click the “Profile” subtab.
Click the “Close Account” link located under “Account Information” and
follow the online instructions.Once your old account has been closed, please follow these steps to open
a new account:Visit https://www.paypal.com/
Select the “Personal” radio button for a Personal or Premier account.
Select the “Business” radio button for a Business account.Choose a Country from the drop down menu.
Click “Continue.”
Fill out the form. *The Business account form has two pages to complete.
Click the “Sign Up” button at the bottom of the page. You will be taken
to a new page.Once you have opened a new account, please follow the directions to confirm your email address. Once your email address is confirmed, your PayPal account will be ready to use!
Again, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you. If you have further questions, please feel free to email us back

You may know that, as a Sri Lankan user, you can’t receive money in PayPal but I found a Work around to Withdraw PayPal Money to Sri Lankan Bank
Withdraw money from PayPal to Sri Lankan Bank
Image via Wikipedia
Please refrain from using this method as GAF is no longer supporting this method. This method is no longer valid.
Though I write this article for Sri Lankans, anyone who has problem withdrawing paypal money can try this out.
As I wrote earlier Sri Lankans can’t receive payment in Paypal, so most of the users register as Indian users and receive payments. But there is an issue that you can’t cash out your money that you have in your paypal account. I was trying several ways and found out a way to cash my money. It’s a work around and you will loose small amount of money in transactions but still you can receive most of your money.
To do this you need to have three accounts
1. PayPal Account
2. Get A Freelancer Account
3. Moneybookers Account
Have you created the accounts??? I presume you have created the accounts
First login to your Get A Freelancer account ->
Go to Manage Accounts ->
Payment Transactions ->
Deposit Money ->
Choose PayPal
Now enter the amount
Click Next
Complete the transaction
Once you have withdraw the money from PayPal to Get A Freelancer, again Click on Payment transactions
Click Withdraw Money
Choose Moneybookers
Choose the amount you wanna transfer to Moneybookers
Complete the transaction
GAF will take about a week to transfer your money to Moneybookers account. From Moneybookers you can wire the money to your local bank accounts.
When you wire all you need is Bank Account Number and the SWIFT code of your bank. Search your bank’s site for SWIFT code or call their customer care and check out the SWIFT code. (Check Commercial bank Swift code)

Receive Money from PayPal – Sri Lankan Context
We can withdraw money using this technique, but debit card company charging a lot as fee. Found another way to withdraw money to Sri Lankan Bank. Check it out
Two years back, I could still remember that we Sri Lankans can’t open PayPal account. Now things have changed and we can open an account in PayPal. But the most annoying thing is we Sri Lankans can’t receive money on Pay Pal while our neighbors such as Indians can receive money.
If you registered an account as Sri Lankan user, then you can’t receive payments from other Pay Pal users. In the other hand if you registered as a Indian, US user you can receive money to you PayPal account but you’ll have a sending limit (500 USD) and you can’t cash that money.
If your sending limit $500 reached then you’ll not be able to send money from your PayPal account. If you’re to send more than $500 then you have to verify your account by adding a credit card.
Recently one of my friends found a way to make it cash. You can withdraw the money to Get A Freelancer.com’s account and then you can withdraw the money using their debit card.
I have already requested for a debit card from them and they have approved my card too but yet to receive my card. Once I receive my card I’ll let you know the answer for the million dollar question, how much convenient will it be?
* Personally I’m not encouraging anyone to do so, till I learn the reality.
