People tend to stick to the relations. Today Information and Communication technology helping all of us to full fill this human need.

When I was talking with my friend in USA, he told me that it’s very cheap for him to call Sri Lanka or India from USA. He was keeping on talking and gossiping about what’s happening in USA. Later I come to know that these people are using pre-paid card to talk with overseas friends and family members.
I can remember that during my school days I used to buy SLT prepaid card and make calls from it, but now things have changed you can buy and prepaid card online to make calls.

My friend is using the site www.phonecardsavenue.com to buy cards. I just wanted to explore this site and see what they are offering. Once you go to this site, you can select the country you want to make a call. Then it’ll show you all the available pre paid cards and the rate per minute. For example you can search for cheap India Phone Cards to India. Even to Sri Lanka you can find cards.

If you want to search for a product then you can input the name and find that product in this site. It seems they have developed a 3% cash return program for their customers.

And finally if you happen to have any problem you can check their FAQ page. Call your loved once that are living overseas this holiday and show your love to them.

Adobe Air: use your online apps offline

March 5, 2008 · Filed Under Internet · Comment

Adobe has launched software designed to make it easier for computer users to use online applications offline. Adobe Air allows developers to build tools that still have some functionality even when a computer is no longer connected to the net. A free download will allow users of Macs, PCs and, later this year, Linux machines to run any Air applications. The first programs that use the technology, developed by web sites such as eBay, have already been released. “Air is going to allow applications that run on the web today - that run in the browser - to be brought down to the desktop,” Andrew Shorten, platform evangelist at Adobe told BBC News. “It’s about taking existing web applications and adding extra functionality whether you want to work offline or whether you want to access data on your disk.”

Mr Shorten said that the technology is not about replacing the web browser. “It’s about delivering the best experience depending on where you are and what you need to get from the application, ” he said. “If I’m on the road with my laptop maybe I want to use the desktop version of my application. If I pop into an internet cafe I can still access it through the browser.” The software is part of a growing number of technologies that aim to make the transition between the on and offline worlds seamless. In 2006, Microsoft unveiled its Silverlight technology. And last year Google launched Gears. The tool does not allow the creation of new content but does allow web applications to be used offline.

Harry Potter in Sinhala???

October 15, 2007 · Filed Under Sinhalese, Sri Lanka, Tamil · 4 Comments
The Czech edition of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: literally Harry Potter and the Prince of Dual BloodImage via Wikipedia

Today I was reading Wikipedia and I found that they have mentioned that translation of Harry Potter into Sinhalese is unofficial, but I found that book was available to buy over sarasavi.com.

I’m just curious to know whether anyone know about this book(ISBN 9555732866). Also some trivia says Tamil translations are expected to hit the market around 15 January 2008.

There is no doubt; it’ll bring pleasure and happiness to our local children, if we can get these books in Tamil and Sinhalese. One of the reasons I learned or in other words improved my English is by reading Rowling’s work.

Even if there are some companies to translate this book, they have to have many problems, specially the black market problem. Nobody seems to care about intellectual property in Sri Lanka. Hope soon we can get these books in our languages.

Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows - Review

August 16, 2007 · Filed Under Books · 27 Comments

Harry Potter and deathly HallowsFinally I have finished the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7). One of the best books I have ever read in my life. Here I?d like to share some thoughts about this book and the movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Believe me I won?t make any spoilers here.

Usually HP stories starts in Private drive, but in this book story starts in Malfoy?s house. The whole story is dark and bloody, anyway with voldermort what else can we expect???

In this book Ron and Hermonie drop the school and join with Harry Potter to hunt the horcruxes down. In the mean while they learn about Deathly Hallows as well (I can?t talk about Deathly Hallows, since it?ll lead me to a spoiler).

Snape is also playing a key role in this story, I wont? talk much because again it?ll lead to a spoiler. However here many myths about Snape, Lily potter was revealed by Rowling.

Not like the book 5, Harry Potter and the Order (Though it?s my fav book till I read the final book) of the phoenix this book is moving on a breathless pace. Finally there is a war between death eaters and rest of the innocent wizard community.

Order, DD Army, some well wishers join together and fight against the dark lord and his armies in Hogwarts school. Anyway you can easily predict the end of the story, Hats off to Rowling for this fantastic book.

All in all it?s a wonderful book!

Let?s talk about the movie OOP movie. It?s indeed a total disaster. Movie is nothing compare to the book. Many scenes that I have expected are either cut-off or narrowed down. So sad so sad.

May be it?s a problem when converting books into movies, but Lord of the rings is a good example how to convert a book into a movie.

Though you?ll watch this movie for sure, it?s not worth watching this movie.

Harry Potter 7 & Torrents

July 22, 2007 · Filed Under Books · 4 Comments

Finally most expected book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7) has come to the market with big BANG. As a matter of fact typical Sri Lankans can’t afford that book. Since I’m a typical Sri Lankan and I don’t have 20 Euros to buy the book I went to torrent.

For god’s sake torrent is illegal, but I got no choice.. After some time the price of the book will come down so I can get that book. Till that time I have to read the downloaded book.

I got the book and I was reading it, usually story starts in private drive but this time story starting with a secret meeting of vodermort. In second chapter only Rowling moving to private drive..

So for the time being I’m damn busy with my book and I won’t be able to write any posts in either Tamil or English. Hope it’ll have a happy end..
