The Swiss authorities have ordered the withdrawal from shops of biscuits from Thailand and Sri Lanka tainted with the toxic chemical, melamine.

They say traces of the chemical were found in LomonPuff Munchee biscuits imported from Sri Lanka. They’ve urged other European countries to follow them.

In Sri Lanka Dr. Ajith Mendis, Director General of Health, told that Swiss authorities are yet to inform them on the withdrawal of Sri Lankan products.

“Now that we were told, of course I would be taking measures to get these buiscuits tested,” he said.

The judiciary has issued an interim order against the distribution and selling of Edna chocolate products. The order was issued after considering a petition by the Consumer Affair Authority (CAA) which said it is suspicious whether the company has used milk tainted with the toxic chemical.

Colombo Additional Magistrate ordered the CAA to produce a report on its investigations on 28 October.

Test results on the leading milk powder brands Nespray, Anchor, Kotmale, Maliban and Diamond have proven to be free of Melamine, Minister of Consumer Affairs Bandula Gunawardena said.

With more and more milk products from China and Taiwan having problem. We really have to check where the things are produced. Here is a way to differentiate Taiwan made products and China made products: by looking at first three digits of its Bar Code.

If the first three digits are 690, 691 or 692 – China made

If the first three digits are 471 – Taiwan made

Sri Lanka, Colombo, Galle Face GreenImage via Wikipedia

Today Sri Lanka is a country devastated by the bloody war, ravaged to scratch. People are suffering from hunger and war. No politicians seem to take action to prevent these burning issues. The country used to be the peal of Indian Ocean, now its garbage tin of Indian Ocean.

Almost 3 decades back, India was a friendly neighbor for LTTE. Today things have changed a lot. Even though many people in South Indian state Tami Nadu support for LTTE, Central government is not so keen on developing a relationship with LTTE. Read more

Sri Lanka to Import Electricity from India

March 23, 2008 · Filed Under India, News, Sri Lanka · 4 Comments

Energy crisis has reached its peak in Sri Lanka. Day by day need for energy in Sri Lanka is escalating, but the supply is insufficient. Nowadays Sri Lankans are enjoying electricity bills (??). In whole Asia, Sri Lankans are paying highest bills than any other nations. Sri Lankan government is seeking for several alternatives and come up with several ways to solve this problem out.

  • Coal Plant
  • Import Electricity

Government has taken initiations to build Coal power plant in Trincomalee and Nuraicholai. It is a long term project so we can’t be expecting it to start and work from tomorrow. Also it’s strongly opposed by environmentalist that it’ll cause harm to the environment, but do we have an alternative other than accepting this project?

Latest hot news in energy sector of Sri Lanka is Electricity import from India. Indian government has agreed to offer power from Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Cables under the sea will be built and reception center are expected to build in Anuradhapura and Mannar. Government says it’ll bring down the cost for the electricity production. Feasible studies are undergoing and constructions are expected to start by next month.

I’m pretty sure; India will love this initiation as they can boost their influence in Sri Lanka.

Tibet Should be FREE

March 18, 2008 · Filed Under Uncategorized · 6 Comments

Japan, China, Singapore, these are the three nations that I admire in Asia along with India. These are the nations that showed the world, what Asians can do? We can do better than you! Singapore is a tiny nation which is rejected by Malaysia, but now today it is one of the most powerful economies in the world. It’s showing the courage and willingness and commitment of Singaporeans. In the other hand Japan, as we all know, developed into a developed nation after the devastating World War II.

India is another nation which is a role model for accepting and enjoying the diversity. I know there are some ethnical issues in India, but compare to countries like Sri Lanka they are far far better.

China is one of the super powers in our region and has the potential to challenge any nation in the world. Especially Chinese authorities have a good relationship with Sri Lankan government. Even during Indo-china war Sri Lankan government supported Chinese. I always admired this nation, and its Iron ruling policy. I talked with many Chinese people. They all say “I have no issues living it China. I have everything and I’m fine out there. I like Chinese government”.

So it seems that Chinese people like the government but not the western authorities.

These days burning issue in CNN and BBC is the riots in Tibet. What is actually happening in Tibet? I was reading several materials and I found that china invaded this small nation. The leader Dalai Lama has flown to India. New Delhi welcomed him with two hands.

Now Chinese government blaming that Dalai Lama is directing the riots in Tibet using his cliques. Also Chinese government saying that for the unity of China, Taiwan and Tibet is important for them. Still china has no influence in Taiwan. Taiwan which is enjoying the company of USA is so far safe from super power China.

Here my point is, if set of people or an ethnic group doesn’t want to live with the mother nation then what is the point of keeping them using control? It will lead to the development of up going riots.

TIBET SHOULD BE A FREE INDEPENDENT NATION
