Kollywood movies have the widest overseas distribution after Telugu and Hindi films and becoming more popular outside its region especially in Japan and Austral-asia. High budgeted lucrative commercial Tamil cinema targets wider audience yet still I don't understand the mindset of this audience.

Most expensive Indian film ever? Who cares?

His last good movie was Baasha. Granted that movie all the elements that have now become cliched about a Rajini movie, Baasha was deliciously over the top without being cheesy. I recall the flashback scenes and I have to say they were pretty good for what they were trying to achieve.

I am sorry, Rajini lost it a long time as far as I am concerned. What is sad is that he used to be a pretty good actor. Anyone watching his performance in Sri Rangavendra Swami will be left in no doubt that if he put his mind to it, he is right up there with the best. Right now, he could be the Tamil James Bond, Superman or Batman, and I couldn't care less.

As for Shankar, his only claim to fame is making every subsequent movie project progressively bigger, brasher, dumber and more expensive. If that is what makes a good film director, then Michael Bay should be worshiped.
