Unprofessionalism of HSBC in Sri Lanka
There was a time HSBC was the prestigious bank in Sri Lanka. At least that is what I thought so. Recently we always hear people complain a lot about HSBC and their professionalism.
Recently I had to open an account in HSBC as my employer made it mandatory. Over a year I’ve been ok with their services and products. Recently I come to know what it is about being treated unprofessionally.
One day my debit card suddenly stopped working at any HSBC ATMs. When I reached the customer care I was asked to refer the number of the receipt. Later my card was declared a failed card by the call center guy. I was told it was due to Magnetic stripe failure.
But magically it works in other bank ATMs. I have no idea why HSBC ATMs are over sensitive 
Later I placed a request for a new card as I won’t’ be able to survive without an ATM/Debit card. Again the smart (most of them are self-declared) call center agent told me that it’d take 7 working days.
You might imagine my hard time during end of the month without debit card and during weekend banks also closed. Last week I called them and the lady on the other side said they’ve given the card to courier service.
I decided to take up all pain and hold up for 7 working days. In the other hand I was happy as I received my ATM pin number last week.
After all the hard time, today I called the smart customer care call center and it took about 15 minutes for them to answer the call. Then the lady on the other side said, sir you have called Credit card center. I’ll transfer the call sir! (Though the menu says its personal banking). After waiting another 5 minutes someone else answer the call. After verifying my details she told me the funniest thing I ever heard very recently.
“Sir! You have not placed a request for a replacement ATM card. You have placed a request for an ATM pin reset” duh!!! Seriously!!!!!
I was so pizzed off and totally disappointed by the way their call center agents handle people. Probably the guy who took the request for me for a debit card replacement selected the wrong menus on the screen and ended up with PIN RESET.
I told her “I want to escalate it to your manager. How to do this?”
She transferred my call and I had to wait another 10 minutes. Later again she picked the call and said, sir leave me your number I’ll ask my supervisor to call you.
I told her, I know you guys will not call me back. Can you give me your word?
She said, “Yes, I’ll make sure they’ll call you”
By the time I hang up the phone I was on the call for about 30 minutes. Wasted my mobile bill.
Let’s see the professionalism of the supervisors at call center. Will they ever call me back? I doubt it!!!!
This is the biggest harassment ever to happen to me in the service industry. I too work in service industry, I can’t even think of treating the clients this way!!

Finally Miskin’s Muhamoodi movie was released in theaters world-wide. It is told that movie doing “OK” around the world despite critic reviews.

Animal Sacrifice in Sri Lanka
Lately once again the Animal Sacrifice issue has brought up in Sri Lanka as if there are no other burning issues in the country. Being a Hindu myself, I don’t agree with Animal Sacrifices. I was checking with my mother and father if they aware of such practices in Hinduism. As per them animal sacrifices is forbidden in Hinduism, after all Hinduism too preaches love for all livings on earth and forbids eating meat.
Animal Sacrifice is not a practice of contemporary Hinduism. I spend half of my days at Chinese Dragon, that’s a different story completely though.
One of my friends recently told me, how we can allow such cruel act against animals in my Buddhist country. I don’t like the sentiment of Sinhala Buddhist country or Tamil Eelam. I strongly believe in Sri Lanka and Sri Lankans with vision for their country.
I asked him, if Buddhist country can’t allow killing animals, let’s close all the meat shops in Sri Lanka and prove the world that we are the real example for Buddhism. Doesn’t matter whether it’s a fundamental Hindu temple or meat shop they use the same method to slit the throat of the animals.
How to approach this Animal Sacrifice issue??
Sri Lankans have recorded history of being aroused when race and religion used in propaganda. It is something started many centuries ago and still being practiced in the Island. When Buddhism or Sinhala or Tamil is used for something then people go blind and they won’t see most of the background issues or the consequences it’s going to cause.
This is one such blind issue people should be aware of. These issues which can make communal disharmony should be addressed carefully with loads of precaution. Unfortunately Sri Lankan politicians are not mature enough or they want to get some votes out of this issue too.
In my humble opinion, court should intervene and should consider possible transparent influence-free legal action than stupid satyagraha hosted by selfish politicians which will cause more problems in the communal harmony and reconciliation.
PS. Check this out on how such matters handled in US. (I hear some of the people shouting we are sovereign state we don’t have to follow US). Simpson style Doh!!!

Is Karunanithi Really Working Hard for Eelam?
Karunanithi is one of the most hated TN politicians in Sri Lanka both by Tamils and Sinhalese. Almost every citizen in Sri Lanka knows that Karunanithi is such a drama queen who hides behind Sonia Gandhi.
When the Eelam war was on the last phase, Mr. Karunanithi staged one of the most sentimental drama in Chennai. Who went on a hunger strike and told that he will not stop it until SLGov stop the offensive on Tamil people in Wanni. But his hunger strike was over within 2 hours and he released a press release saying “I’ve made SL government to stop the offensive attack on innocent Tamils”.
How long can someone cheat on innocent people? In the very next election (2011) he learned his lession and defeated by his sworn enemy Jeyalalitha. Who once dragged him out his house in middle of the night and made him a prisoner.
Then and there Mr. Karuna brings out the Eelam issue to feast on votes of Tamil Nadu and most of the people in TN now knows about this guy and his family politics. Most recent TESO is one of the bullshit around his marketing campaign with the support of Sonia Gandhi and Central government. Remember he is still in the alliance of Congress led by Sonia.

When the war was on the peak, he is the one taking care and controlling Tamil Nadu and the turmoil in the state. He was working closely with central government and Sonia Gandhi to control the situation in TN while SL carried out the offensive in frontlines, and he had his own reasons to hate LTTE.
It was so obvious Indian government was helping out SL Gov along with other countries such as China etc. In my humble opinion, without Karuna’s help Indian government would have had nightmare controlling the Tamil Nadu state during the latter part of war. His lies and dramas kept state silent and when they (people of Tamil Nadu) woke up from the drama, it was too late as the war in SL was over.
One of the main reasons for him to loose elections in Tamil Nadu was the Eelam sentiments prevailed in Tamil Nadu (2G scam is another notable incident for his defeat). Jeyalalitha utilized it well and made her way into the state government as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Now all she has to do is shout time to time, send letters to Manmohan time to time and release some press releases and show TN that she cares and cries for Tamils in Lanka.
None of the politicians in Tamil Nadu really bothered about the Tamil in Sri Lanka. Except MGR who directly got involved and started to give enormous pressure to Indian government back in 80s. Every politicians there have their own reasons and them shamelessly feasting on Eelam sentiment.

In future if anyone comes to you and tell you that, “Karunanithi is working for an Eelam in Sri Lanka”, you tell him to bugger off. We all know Karunanithi is broke and he is using his last weapon Eelam there.
Tamil Nadu won’t be able to do anything in Sri Lanka as central government controls foreign affairs and military. Also central government has the power to dissolve the state government if things go ugly and out of control.
