Adopt a Stray puppy

August 28, 2009 · Filed Under Sri Lanka · Comment

I love dogs more than any other beings in this world. They are the most loyal and playful partner you could ever find in your life. Almost all of us wanted to go for a german shepherd or Labrador Retriever.

Adopt-a-Stray
But what about giving home to one of that poor fella on street? In foreign countries there are so much of campaigns and you can easily adopt a starry pub but in Sri Lanka we have only one and only programme initiated by Embark.

As some of you may be aware, Embark Adopt a Street Pooch Campaign is happening again on the 30th August 2009 at ODEL Alexandra Place.

Adopt a Street Pooch Campaign is designed to help Stray pups/dogs in Sri Lanka. Giving a stray dog a loving home will undoubtedly bring rewards to all involved. The new lease of life, comfort and love offered to an adoptee will ensure its’ loyalty and companionship for life. A wonderful addition to any family, we have experienced a number of successes with the adoption of our stray puppies and dogs, all of whom have flourished within the family homes that they have been placed in.

Event Day – 30/08/2009
Event time – 3.00pm to 6.00pm
Event venue – Car park space in front of Boulevard

Once in every four weeks, Embark will have a day event at ODEL WP – where people can come in to see the pups that are to be Re-Homed FREE.
Please be part of this campaign and see if you can give these lovely animals a good home.

Please pass this message to all your friends and family.

Call for more info – 4 334 633

I’ll be there next Sunday and wish to see my readers too there. Adopting a pub is the most beautiful thing you could do. They are the only beings who love you back honestly and truly.

Adopt a pub and find a life changing experience for you and your family.

Letter by a Lankan Tamil for Tamils

May 29, 2009 · Filed Under Sinhalese, Sri Lanka, Tamil · 20 Comments

Dear friends,
Every one is talking and celebrating the victory of Armed forces. As far as I see most of the Tamils are inside house and keeping themselves quite. Also I can see, here and there people are collecting foods and medicines for the IDPs. I can frankly say most of the Tamils are still in the shock to be honest. During this war both SL and LTTE violated the human rights. Thousands of people were killed in this war in vain

Thirty years of damn fucking war has ravaged each and every one of us. Doesn’t matter whether you’re a Tamil or Sinhalese we all fucked up by this war.

From the birth, people of my age have never seen a war free Sri Lanka. Time is having the power to heal but in our case time has given us more vengeance and hatred. No one can deny that Tamils were mistreated in Sri Lanka after the independence.

Tamil Youths started to raise their voice and it became an Eelam war headed by LTTE. Most of us started to believe in this war and thought that we can win our rights back through this war. Now my dear friends, think for a while, who lost everything because of this war? More than our Sinhala brothers, we paid enough in this war.

We always complain about the past. Typical example we always brought up is 1983 riots against the Tamils. True, government should have stopped it, instead they watched it happen and they’ve given enough protection to mobs.

Back in 1983, LTTE killed 19 SL soldiers and it triggered the black July in Sri Lanka, but afterwards when LTTE gained control over Mullaitivu, Elephanpass thousands of soldiers were killed but there was not another riot like 1983. What I’m trying to say is, we Tamils must accept the reality and should give Sri Lanka another chance.

Now the world has change. We must come out of our circle and think according to the current situation, I mean think rationally. Personally I won’t stand another war in this country. I’m tired of it. Please my dear friends give Sri Lanka another chance to prove that Tamils are part of Sri Lanka.

It’s been five years since I moved to Colombo. I studied in Kelaniya campus where most of my friends are Sinhalese. I’ve never been treated badly by any of my friends. When ever I had problems they were there to help me out. They came even to our home in Trincomalee and Jaffna and satayed in our home shared our happiness with us. We went to their homes in places such as A’Pura etc. Now I’m working in a reputed software company where most of my office mates are Sinhalese. Please believe me, when ever I wanted something, there are always friends and most of them are Sinhalese.

I’m assuring that Sinhala youths understand Tamil grievances more than international community such as how we are getting treated in Check-points etc. There are some Sinhala friends who apologized to me on behalf of SL forces after by having seen how I got treated in Check-point.

End of this war brings another era or another chapter to Sri Lanka. We all should take part in this chapter, and no point of talking about the past again and again. We Tamils must give Sri Lanka another chance. Who knows in future world will have lessons from this small nation ‘Sri Lanka’.

PS: Just because I wrote this letter some might call me ‘A Traitor’ but it doesn’t matter. I’m really tired of this damn fucking war and it’s effects. I have come out of the shell, hope everyone will do for the better future of our own people.

Kelaniya Campus Signal Light and Authorities

April 12, 2009 · Filed Under Sri Lanka · 8 Comments

streetlight-smKelaniya Campus is known as one of the most notorious campus in Sri Lanka. Sometimes I feel bit reluctant to say that I’m a product of Kelaniya University. Anyway put my grievances aside and come to the point.

There is a Light Signal in main road which enable students and lecturers to cross the Kandy road. You’ll feel the important of this signal light during traffic time. None of the vehicle drivers will give a shit about students or lecturers crossing the road.

Five months back the signal lights went dead. Students were struggling to cross the road as vehicles don’t stop for them. In signal light you’ll find a number, which you can use to call the authorities or the people who planted it.

One of my friends took the number and made a call to this people. The chief Engineer talked and he said “Sorry! RDD didn’t pay the electricity bill, so they cut the electricity. Signal light is in good condition; once RDD paid the bill we can re-activate the signal light”

How pathetic?? In this country government is spending more money on unnecessary stuffs why not on this signal light??? After all this is an investment on the country. We were so pissed with the authorities and waited for about 5 months.

Now RDD paid the bill and another hilarious event happened. Once the signal light is reactivated, instead of working it went on strike. Yah! Red light blinks forever. It’ll not change to green so pedestrians can’t cross the road.

Again called the Engineer and the response was “I‘ll send someone to fix it”.

Someone came and fixed something and the signal light went dead again, my friend forgot to remember that this is Sri Lanka. No point of calling and asking from authorities. Just live as you want and don’t care about rest of your country as most of us do.

April 10, 2009 · Filed Under Sinhalese, Sri Lanka, Tamil · 1 Comment

This is New Year season and each and every one of us are wishing each other for the upcoming new year. April 14 is New Year to both Tamil and Sinhalese.

I see many people are wishing Happy Sinhala and Hindu New Year. This is not Hindu New year. In the other hand, can you call it Buddhist New Year??

So when you meet a Tamil friend next time, wish him “Happy Tamil New Year machan”.

BTW, Happy Tamil and Sinhala New Year :)
