Tiger Planes were Attacked in Colombo

February 21, 2009 · Filed Under News, Sri Lanka · 1 Comment

Yesterday night around 9.30 power went off. I assumed that something going to happen in the sky. In couple of minutes after I got a News Alert on my Dialog mobile, this confirmed a possible LTTE Aircraft thread.

Suddenly SL Army started to fire tracer bullets in the sky and everywhere people went inside the home but I came outside to see what’s going on in the sky. I didn’t hear any noise of LTTE planes but I saw a bright yellow color light followed by a thunder like noise.

Later power came back and government claimed that they’ve shot down one light air craft of LTTE. While cleaning up the Inland Revenue office in Colombo, AF found parts similar to LTTE’s aircraft which confirms that the second LTTE craft also down.

Today morning Tamil net says “The LTTE Friday claimed two aircraft of Black Air Tiger mission diving into Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Headquarters in Colombo and into the SLAF base at Katunayaka, carrying out successful air raids. The Tigers also released photograph of the two Black Air Tigers, Col. Roopan and Lt. Col. Siriththiran with LTTE leader Velupillai Pirapaharan before embarking on their mission.”

But the defence.lk says “The latest reports indicate that both LTTE aircraft entered into the Colombo aerospace were destroyed by the air defence system. One of the aircraft disabled by anti air gunfire reportedly crashed in the rear of the Inland Revenue Department building located on the Sir C.A. Gardiner road.”

I was reading a defense analysis on a site and that site was saying it’s difficult for LTTE to keep their planes as their territory becoming small and small. Even if Aircraft manage to get back to Wanni, it’ll be tedious task for them to land securely as radars and SLAF fighter jets can track them down.

Sri Lanka to Import Electricity from India

March 23, 2008 · Filed Under India, News, Sri Lanka · 4 Comments

Energy crisis has reached its peak in Sri Lanka. Day by day need for energy in Sri Lanka is escalating, but the supply is insufficient. Nowadays Sri Lankans are enjoying electricity bills (??). In whole Asia, Sri Lankans are paying highest bills than any other nations. Sri Lankan government is seeking for several alternatives and come up with several ways to solve this problem out.

  • Coal Plant
  • Import Electricity

Government has taken initiations to build Coal power plant in Trincomalee and Nuraicholai. It is a long term project so we can’t be expecting it to start and work from tomorrow. Also it’s strongly opposed by environmentalist that it’ll cause harm to the environment, but do we have an alternative other than accepting this project?

Latest hot news in energy sector of Sri Lanka is Electricity import from India. Indian government has agreed to offer power from Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Cables under the sea will be built and reception center are expected to build in Anuradhapura and Mannar. Government says it’ll bring down the cost for the electricity production. Feasible studies are undergoing and constructions are expected to start by next month.

I’m pretty sure; India will love this initiation as they can boost their influence in Sri Lanka.
