FTP Blogger Blogs to WordPress Migration
Recently Google has announced that they are going to stop supporting FTP publishing Blogger blogs. Initially they’ve planned to stop the support by February but then due to the noise made by bloggers Google has postponed it to May.
Google claims that there are several reasons why they stop supporting FTP, but in my opinion I see it as more of an arrogant tone of a giant.
So I decided to move my blog to WordPress one of the best blogging platforms on earth. Thanks to Ravi (Successful WordPress Freelancer) for pointing me to correct resources.
Procedure is very simple. Please read Ravi’s Blog for guidelines and if you wanna retain your incoming links and redirect your feed visitors then you gotta read the post from DW.
Happy Blogging. WordPress ROCKS!!!
PS: My moved site is active up and running, I didn’t lose a single incoming link.

He’s giving out accounts from HostGator reseller account so you’ll have a wonderful Control Panel. Since you’re getting a free hosting from Ravi, you need to link him back using blog roll or via a link in footer.
All you need to have is a domain name. These days you can get domains for such low prices such as $9, which is around 1000 LKR. You can register your domain in sites like namecheap.com or godaddy.com.
If you need any assistance in registering a domain, leave me a comment here. I’ll contact you promptly.

Another WP PLUGIN Week from Binny
You may wonder what the hell this guy is talking. Actually a LAMP specialist dedicated for WordPress made WordPress Plug-in last December for about a week.
Last time he made six WordPress plug-ins just for the WordPress community in just one week. Binny is good friend of mine and a regular reader of my blog.
Once again he has prepared to launch another WP Plug-in week. Actually he has released his first plug-in Weather Man.
You may ask me, what is weather Man?
Binny’s blog answers the question
Weather Man shows the weather as a widget in the sidebar. You can add the widget using the Widget page under Appearance. Or you can add it in a post using the [weather-man] shortcode anywhere in the post. It uses Yahoo’s Weather API.
Don’t just under estimate his work. Last time, his WP Plug-in week was featured in Blogging Tips.
Let’s download and test his Plug-in and encourage this young dynamic WP developer.
WordPress.com Search Engine
We have conventional Search Engines such as Google and yahoo but one year back WordPress.com has come up with a Search Engine which can search within WordPress.com.
I don’t see a valid reason for this, according to WordPress.com it’ll show the post in the result once it’s published, in other words instantly.
I don’t think this initiation will become popular because even Google can fetch your blog update within 10 minutes. I have seen and amazed on how Google index posts from our blog so quickly.
In the other hand you have enough options in Google where in WordPress.com search haven’t got any advance searching feature.
May be WordPress.com could have extended their search to other self hosted blogs too. It would have brought much wider audience to the search Engine.
This is only just a WordPress.com search engine, nothing much to talk on this feature.
PS: Tamil interface also available for WordPress.com search
WordPress 2.7.1 is now available
WordPress 2.7 came with the big BANG. Now it’s time for 2.7.1. Yep, they have released maintenance release for 2.7. Its adding fixes for the raised 68 tickets. Day by day WordPress is getting more and more stabilised.
As usual you can download WordPress 2.7.1 from wordpress.org and manually update the site or you can update through WordPress installation. You can automatically upgrade from 2.7 to 2.7.1 via the Tools->Upgrade menu.
WordPress Television
Blogger has its own blogger video tutorial online. I was so worried that there are no official tutorials from WordPress it self. Today Automattic has announced of WordPress.tv.
Basically it’s a place where you can expect tutorials for both WordPress.com and WordPress.org, also you can find cool presentations which was used in WordCamp and all.
We hope you’ll consider WordPress.tv not just a support resource, but a place to hang out and keep up with all the geeky goodness going on in the WordPress community. Tune in regularly for fresh content and updates to the WordPress.tv blog. Lots more is on the way.
Go and have some fun out there on WordPress Television.
Subscribe to comments in WordPress.com
Subscribe to comments is one of my favorite WordPress Plug-in. If you installed this on your WordPress installation, your readers will get an option to subscribe to the desired post’s comments. As the result, readers can follow up the comments and it’ll also increase your traffic.
Now WordPress.com has given this plug-in for their millions of users. It’s an exciting news for those who blog on WordPress.com
Check WordPress.com blog for more information.
Blogger Vs WordPress.com

As problogger.com says, blogger have more users than WordPress.com. Here in this post I’m not going to compare self hosted WordPress and Blogger. Self hosted WordPress is highly customizable but you can’t customize WordPress.com as you wish (as a free user).
To make it fair I’m going to compare Blogger and WordPress.com, because both of this blogging services are free. Blogger is owned by internet giant Google and WordPress.com is owned by Automattic.

You can’t customize the theme or CSS in WordPress.com. If you really wanna edit those CSS files then you need to pay and get the permission. Personally I think you can buy a hosting for that money. In the other hand blogger offer you the opportunity to customize the template as you wish. XML enabled blogger themes helps no-voice user to edit CSS and design the layout as they wish without paying a penny.
To avoid SPAM comments you may enable Random Letters protection, but most of the users around blogosphere found it more irritating and annoying. WordPress.com is helping you to hunt down SPAMS using a technology ASKIMET. It’s very effective and it’s almost catching SPAMS.
Earlier WordPress.com didn’t support that Visitors’ stat. It means you don’t know how many people visited your blog, where in Blogger you can use almost any third party stat counter in your blog. Now WordPress.com also offering a wonderful stat tool which you can use also in yourself hosted blog.
You can use your customized header both in Blogger and WordPress.com, but when you’re using WordPress.com make sure the theme you use can supports the customizable header. Some themes don’t support this feature.
You can’t embed any JavaScript in your WordPress.com blog that means you can’t use third party blogging tools such as stats, feedburner’s email delivery, Pay Per Post, Adsene etc. As I said earlier you can embed almost anything in Blogger by editing the theme.
Incase if you want to move your blog from Blogger to WordPress, then WordPress.com got wonderful tool that can help you to migrate your posts, author even categories, but Blogger doesn’t have such feature where you can migrate your posts from another Blogging platform.
It is said that Blogger offering unlimited storage for image storing where WordPress.com offering 3GB (not a bad size) space for your blog. I’m using blog for 2 years and my blog still has not reached even 100MB so I don’t think 3GB will be a problem. It’s more than enough.
An optional excerpt is another advantage in WordPress.com. You can show the real punching line in your home page and make user to read the full post. This feature is not available in Blogger.
Now both Blogger and WordPress.com offers widget, so it doesn’t make much difference among both of them.
If you’re an advanced programmer or a person who’d like to play around with codes then please go for Blogger.com. WordPress.com restricts you from editing theme, CSS codes. In the other hand if you really wanna play around with WordPress themes, code, CSS then go for a self hosted WordPress account or become a premium member by paying to WordPress.com.
In my personal opinion I think, if WordPress.com can allow embedding external scripts and allows editing the CSS and themes then it’ll be a much better choice than the Blogger. We can’t predict anything. May be in future WordPress.com will remove these restrictions.
