How to Watch Blocked ‘YouTube Shows’ Videos

June 29, 2009 · Filed Under Entertainment, Google, Internet, Tutorials · 5 Comments

When YouTube introduced YouTube Shows, I was flying and happy beyond imagination. Soon I come to know that most of the shows are not available to Sri Lankan users.

I was so annoyed. I wonder why YouTube shows the shows that are not available to our region. When you click on a video, it’ll return an error message saying “This video is not available in your country due to copyright restrictions”.

When I asked from Google, this is their answer….

Some YouTube content partners choose to make their videos available only to certain countries. For instance, they may only have the licensing rights for a particular region. On occasion, YouTube does block specific content in order to comply with local laws in countries where YouTube has been launched. For instance, certain Nazi imagery is unlawful in parts of Europe.

They block the videos based on IP address. Since our IP address shows that we’re coming from Sri Lanka, YouTube will display above message to us.

Even to most of the European users, it’s the same story. I was digging in net and came across this wonderful Proxy.

http://www.hypercloak.com will help you to watch most of the shows. Go to that site and enjoy YouTube shows.

Google Chrome is Now Available in Tamil

June 25, 2009 · Filed Under Google, India, Internet, Localisation · 4 Comments

Good news for Tamil computer users. Google has released their Chrome browser with Tamil interface. Yipee! It’s available in Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya (on Windows Vista alone), Tamil, and Telugu. A Hindi version was available earlier.

Eearlier we had Firefox 2.X with Tamil Interface. It was localised by Thamizha community. Later, Firefox came up with version 3.0 but we didn’t have Tamil interface for it. During this time Firefox 3.0 was released with Sinhala interface.

Later University of Moratuwa worked on and come up with a Sri Lankan Tamil locale interface. Where you need to install English interface, later on top of it you can install the Tamil interface.

Now we have Firefox 3.5 with Tamil interface, but still it’s a Release candidate. So it may be an unstable product.

Now it seems Google has released the browser for most of the major Indian languages including Tamil.

Important part of the help pages of Google Chrome also have been translated into Tamil. But unfortunately they’ve used, Taminglish (Tamilised English words) for some vocabulary. This is often a criticism raised against Google’s translations.

You can grab a copy of your Google Chrome Tamil from Chrome website.

Tamil Spell Checker for Firefox

June 22, 2009 · Filed Under India, Internet, Localisation, Tamil · Comment

Good news for Tamil Firefox users. A new version of Tamil Spell checker is available in Firefox. More than 50,000 words have been included with the help of Tamil Wikipedia.

I’ve been using it and its comparatively doing a good job but we need to have some decision machine attached to this spell checker to suggest spellings.

Hats off to Balachander Muruganandam, for initiating this project. He is a known blogger in blogosphere and has developed so much of Gadgets and tools in Tamil.

You can download Firefox Tamil Spell Checker from Firefox website.

Bing Translator – Full Scale War Against Google?

June 12, 2009 · Filed Under Google, Internet · 800 Comments

It’s seems Microsoft is preparing a full scale offensive against Google. First they come up with Bing, and it was positively rated by many tech blogs. Now Microsoft challenges Google Translator with Bing Translator.

What I like most in Google is the support to Indian languages including Hindi and Tamil. Google translate offers translations in Hindi, but Bing translator lacks support to Hindi or any other Indian languages.

Bing Translator offers widget for web masters. If they place the widget in their site, their users can translate the site and see in the desired (supported) languages.

Also you can use Live Messenger’s translation Bot. It’ll automatically translate other languages when you chat with a person who speaks (or types) different language other than English.

iPhone in Sri Lanka

June 11, 2009 · Filed Under Mobile, Sri Lanka · 19 Comments

Sri Lankans are very unlucky fellows when it comes to iPhone. Apple has announced about a new version of their iPhone OS which will enable you to send MMS and it’ll also allow you to perform copy and paste functionality.

Meanwhile Apple has released a new model of iPhone (known as iPhone 3GS). This model got much more features such as built-in video camera etc.

You can buy iPhone with an operator contract for about $99 and iPhone 3Gs for $199. Unfortunately iPhone is not available in Sri Lanka and none of the operators are supporting it.

If you see someone with a iPhone, he is either using a iPhone like fake phone or illegally bought iPhone.

Sometime back Dialog came up with the iPhone deal and everyone was talking about it. Later they dropped the plan and the page also went missing from their site. If we can get one of our local operators to support iPhone we can get iPhone with a connection for about 11, 000 LKR, which is far way cheaper than all Nokia smart phones.

Hope to see iPhone in Sri Lankan market soon.

HostGator Web Hosting Review and cupon

June 10, 2009 · Filed Under Internet, Tutorials · 6 Comments

host-gator-couponHostGator is one of the leading web hosts online. What sets them apart? Let’s look at some of the key features that have people so happy with their service. After all, they’re an increasingly popular web host provider–so what makes them so special?

Before starting, I want to mention that I have been using hostgator for more than one and half year and 10 of my sites are hosted on same account. I never had any problems. If you ever have problems, HostGator customer care is there for you. Their customer care is very powerful and available 24*7.

Click to Visit Host Gator

Domain Name

HostGator allows you to host an UNLIMITED amount of websites. You can host one site or you can host 1,000–this gives you unlimited possibilities when it comes to growing your site and business online. Many web hosts only offer 100 sites at least, with HostGator there is no ceiling to limit your growth.

Space / Storage

Storage is 100% unlimited. This can be great if you want to host your websites or personal family albums. Having your own web host allows you to host files of any kind for remote access. Keep your websites and businesses hosted on your HostGator account and access your files from anywhere–absolutely NO limit to how much you can store.

Bandwidth

HostGator bandwidth is completely unlimited. This means you can upload and download files from the server, access web pages and files as much as you want and never exceed your quota. This can be critical for people who anticipate large amounts of traffic. You will never have to worry about getting capped or charged extra money for going over your limite, since there isn’t one!

Server Type

HostGator allows you to choose different server types. You can choose between a Linux web host or a Windows based web host–the decision is yours. This is a really nice option since many places don’t let you choose between server type.

Databases

MySQL Databases hold valuable information and are the lifeblood of many websites. If you are setting up any dynamic content you will surely need to use a database at one point or another. Luckily, HostGator offers unlimited SQL databases.

Uptime

HostGator is reknowned for their consistent uptime and security. If you ever experience an outage you can simply contact support for a prompt solution.

Pricing

HostGator is great because they have consistently affordable pricing. Sure, pricing isn’t a huge deal anymore so many hosts are able to offer great deals by splitting up servers into shared accounts, but HostGator pricing is much better due to the fact that they offer low prices on their dedicated and virtual-dedicated servers–something that isn’t so common. You can enter into a HostGator agreement for as low as $5 a month.

Google Chrome for Linux and Mac OS

June 7, 2009 · Filed Under Google · 1 Comment

No doubt, Google chrome is one of the potential growing browsers. What most of the people hate in Chrome is lack of add-on. In Firefox we’ve got amble of Firefox add-ons but in Chrome, we don’t have. Anyway Google is working on this issue; soon this feature will be announced officially.

Good news for Mac and Linux users. Now Google Chrome is available for Linux and Mac OS. But remember still these builds are not stable one, so your browser may crash and all bad stuff may occur :) The current Google Chrome release for Mac OS X and Linux is still very unstable and has quite a few missing security features and options, which of course will be fixed in the coming builds.

Norton Removal Tool

June 3, 2009 · Filed Under Tutorials · 1 Comment

nortonNo doubt Norton is one of the best Anti-virus programs. Since I bought Kaspersky I wanted to remove the promotional version of Norton from my Laptop.

Uninstallation process was taking so much of time, so I just cancelled the windows and restarted the machine and tried to uninstall again. For god sake, I got enough trouble removing Norton from my machine.

If the installation process or uninstallation process is disturbed then next time you can’t install or unninstall Norton also note that you can’t install other Anti-Virus program or Internet security program.

Norton it self giving us a solution for this problem. They’ve got a nice small program, which will remove a failed installation or a damaged Norton product.

Even if this tool didn’t work for you? Then you must contact Norton Customer care to remove Norton from your machine.

BING.com is LIVE

June 1, 2009 · Filed Under Internet · 3 Comments

At last Bing.com is LIVE NOW :)

Bing is a Search Engine developed my Microsoft to challenge Google’s Search Engine. No wonder Microsoft trying to venture into a new Search Engine while having their crappy LIVE search as they want to be the monopoly in everywhere. Google started with Search Engine, now it has roots each and every aspects of internet.

They’re (Bing guys) claiming that “We took a new approach to go beyond search to build what we call a decision engine. With a powerful set of intuitive tools on top of a world class search service, Bing will help you make smarter, faster decisions. We included features that deliver the best results, presented in a more organized way to simplify key tasks and help you make important decisions faster.”

I did some search online and found that it’s doing pretty well compare to over projected CUIL. But still I’m in love with Google.

Hope this guy will give good fight to Google. Internet giants are fighting means, we gonna get more free quality services.

BINGO..! way to go :)
