Firefox “The MOST used browser in Europe”
There are enormous numbers of complaints over Internet Explorer for not adhering internet standards. IE is a product of Microsoft and Microsoft always had its own way of working with technology. They don’t care about the standards set by the industry but they’ll set their own standards, then only they could control the market.
Microsoft IE came to market to compete with Netscape Navigator and they are pretty successful as Navigator production line was closed down last year. In the line of victory Microsoft has earned good number of enemies such as Linux, Firefox, Apple etc.
Consecutively several years, IE continues to be the market leading browser software in the cyber world. Slowly but steadily Firefox started to eat the market share of IE. Later Google’s chrome also joined the battle and caused severe damage to IE.
According to Stat Counter web, for the first time in the history of world, Firefox has beaten IE in Europe. Today Europe may be tomorrow it can be Asia or North America. It’s been almost 2 years since I forgot IE. I love Firefox and will stick with it. What I love most in Firefox is the wide range of Add-ons they offer.
Is this the beginning of an end?? (Yeah… for Microsoft)
Holly Crap! Dialog First to Pilot HSPA+ at 21 Mbps
People were rumoring about this 21Mbps connection and it’s true and Dialog going to offer this service to Sri Lankans. This happened to be in trial phase right now and later it’ll be expanded to major cities like Colombo, Kandy etc. Most probably it’s gonna cater the demand of corporate sector, not for just you and me
I’m not going to fall for 21Mbps story as I’ve heard about their 7.2 Mbps and later how it went down to 1Mbps.
Here an excerpt from the article in Daily mirror
Dialog Telekom PLC, Sri Lanka’s flagship telecommunications services provider, announced the pilot launch of its HSPA+ (Evolved High-Speed Packet Access also known as HSPA Evolution), technology in Sri Lanka, becoming the first mobile operator in the South Asian region to employ this next-generation technology. With HSPA+ customers can experience download speeds of up to 21Mbps, and uplink speeds of up to 5.76Mbps. HSPA + technology is currently available on a pilot basis at the Dialog Future World in Darley Road, Colombo 02 and Dialog plans to extend the pilot network across key locations in its 3.5G network over the next few months. Supun Weerasinghe – CEO Dialog Mobile said: “This pilot service is a clear indication of Dialog’s commitment to offer the best in technology to our customers, resulting in a user experience that is unparalleled. Wireless data applications that are smarter and offer greater flexibility will shape the future of broadband, which in turn has become a vital element of the mobile product.
Dialog will continue to be at the helm of this broadband innovation in Asia as we deliver upon our promise of The Future Today”.
HSPA+ offers mobile users faster response and less latency for media-rich applications, including high-definition video streaming, web surfing and other next-generation wireless applications with high bandwidth requirements.

Another Way to Make Money with Twitter
Twitter is still not sure about how to make good amount of money from their site. Still they’re trying to figure it out, but Twitter users are already found handful of methods to monetise their account. Now you can find handful of Twitter applications. It was made possible after Twitter opened the twitter feed to third-party application through API. Twitter monetising was born through this same API.
Earlier I wrote a post on five ways to make money from your Twitter account. There I’ve talked about five methods such as selling your Twitter profile space, selling Ads on your twitter feed and also I told you that there is some Twitter who’s even sold their Twitter account in EBay.
There is one point I told you about becoming a Pro-Twitter and give access to followers after getting some payment from them. But if you’re to offer that service you’ll have to set-up your own payment gateway or you should go for third party gateways such as PayPal or 2CO.
By knowing above mentioned hassles TwitPub has been introduced to cater the demand for Pro-Twitters. If you’re to become a Pro-Twitter then possibly it’s the most potential service for you.
Check out this Video about TwitPub
But I have doubt; will you pay some money for a Pro-Twit???? Because I won’t! Many people have criticised it. Most of the categories are still empty. Hope they’ll have a good time and Pro-Twitter concept will become possible. We’ll have to wait and see.
I personally suggest you to have a look @ the ebook Make Money on Twitter. you’ll learn first what Twitter is, and then how it may be used to secure your financial freedom.
Update Twitter and Facebook Status Together
Twitter got an API to update status from various applications such as Twitterfox. Most potential social network siteFacebook is also providing status update via API.
I’m a fan of both Twitter and Facebook. I was just wondering why I can’t update both Twitter and Facebook together. If I update Facebook, it should update on Twitter and if I update Twitter, it should be updated on Facebook.
I was digging around and found this Facebook application. This application is available from Twitter’s web site and I’m sure you can rely on it.
Twitter Application itself a good self explainer, therefore you have nothing to worry. You can try and figure out what’s happening around. Good luck Twitters. Have fun with Twitter application for Facebook.
Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
Sri Lankan is a hot spot for pirated software. From the day I know I can buy a Windows CD for just 100 LKR (Aprox $1). Later government started take action on the shops selling pirated copies of Windows. Government started with Windows and stopped with Windows. They never went ahead and worked against piracy afterwards. Still you can find loads of pirated softwares in the market.
But when it comes to Anti-Virus protection people are going for genuine products. They never went for pirated copies as most of the time pirated copies failed to protect their computers from Viruses and trogons.
Most of the people are attracted towards Kaspersky, though conventional antivirus softwares such as symantac and Mcafee available in the market. Main reasons are, user friendly interface of Kaspersky, its efficient and effective in working with virus and internet security and above all it’ll rarely mess up with the system.
One of my friends was using Bitdefender, and it’s such a pain. It’ll eat your system resources and most of the time it’ll start to conflict with your programes. My friend’s SLT ADSL connection was failing all the time and when he uninstalled BitDefender and installed Kaspersky nothing happened.
I bought a 3PC licence for 3000 LKR (only for Sri Lanka and Maldives) in Unity plaza and we shared it among 3 of us. Literally each licence costs about 1000 LKR. If you’re to go for a Single Licence, then you’ll have to spend 1700 LKR. That’s why it’s good you collect three people and buy a licence. It’ll be cost effective
I’m not saying that Kaspersky is the best. But throughout my experience, Kaspersky has done a good job compare to any other Anti Virus, Internet security programme.
Please do share your experiences with Anti-virus software.
PS: According to one of my old campus lecturer, all viruses are created by Anti-virus manufacturers to sell their product.

Vista and Yahoo Messenger – Deadly Combination
It’s been ages since I had problem with Yahoo messenger and Live Messenger. Earlier every time I tried to log into the messenger, I was bumped back. I was so tired and found a short term solution for this problem.
But it didn’t help for a long time and I was tired of this mess and most of the time either I used Skype or I used web based messenger services.
Later with time I learned all these messes caused by firewall of Vista. It’s a total failure. After couple of days I installed Kaspersky and it gained control of the firewall and Vita’s crazy firewall disabled.
Now it’s working fine. No problem at all. Thanks to Kaspersky and I’m cursing Vista for the mess up. I’m sure if you switch off your firewall you’ll be able to log into yahoo messenger.
WordPress.com Search Engine
We have conventional Search Engines such as Google and yahoo but one year back WordPress.com has come up with a Search Engine which can search within WordPress.com.
I don’t see a valid reason for this, according to WordPress.com it’ll show the post in the result once it’s published, in other words instantly.
I don’t think this initiation will become popular because even Google can fetch your blog update within 10 minutes. I have seen and amazed on how Google index posts from our blog so quickly.
In the other hand you have enough options in Google where in WordPress.com search haven’t got any advance searching feature.
May be WordPress.com could have extended their search to other self hosted blogs too. It would have brought much wider audience to the search Engine.
This is only just a WordPress.com search engine, nothing much to talk on this feature.
PS: Tamil interface also available for WordPress.com search
Insert Picture in Gmail
I still remember the early days we have to use many work around to insert a picture in Gmail’s web interface. Now Google Labs has come up with a tool which enables picture insert in Gmail interface.
First enable this feature in Labs as shown in the figure.
Now go to compose mail, you’ll see a new feature to upload a picture.
Make sure you’re in rich formatting mode, or it won’t show up. Click the little image icon, and you can insert images in two ways: by uploading image files from your computer or providing image URLs.
Keep in mind that Gmail doesn’t show URL-based images in messages by default to protect you from spammers, so if you’re sending mail to other Gmail users, they’ll still have to click “Display images below” or “Always display images from …” to see images you embed.
