Another Reason Why Dialog SUCKS!!!!
Few weeks back I wrote about the innovative feature brought to My Dialog by Dialog where you can track your HSPA usage. Unfortunately it’s NOT very important to bring the feature but keep it running forever.
I wanted to check my Dialog HSPA usage and all I found was it wasn’t updated for ages. Who the hell needs a service which is not updated? Look at the figure; it was last updated on 3rd of March but today 27th of March. Next billing cycle also started but the data is not updated.
Way to go Dialog! You’re the BEST, only if we come from bottom to top.
Facebook Update and Notification via SMS
I don’t know what’s going on, but Facebook officially giving SMS update for Sri Lankan mobiles along with UK, USA, Canada and Maldives.
To start the process log-in to Facebook and go to settings and then click on Mobile tab. Dialog has come up with a complete user guide for this process, therefore I’m not going to write about it.
Just after the mobile number confirmation you can choose your own SMS options in facebook such as what type of notifications to receive etc.
Unfortunately this service is only available on Dialog and Mobitel networks. Real sorry for Huth, Tigo, Airtel users. I’m not regretting that I’m still with Dialog
Google Image Search: How to find PURPLE COW in image Search?
Google’s Image search is one of the main sources for our day to day image hunting. Google has improved their search by adding a feature. Now you can search for an image that contains certain colour.
Searching for [red bird] shows good results, but you can still find some unrelated images. What if you search for [bird] and restrict the results to red images? Here’s the URL:
http://images.google.com/images?q=bird&imgcolor=red
(you can replace “red” with “blue”, “green”, “teal”, “purple”, “yellow”, “orange”, “pink”, “white”, “gray”, “black” and “brown”)
I tried RED DOG, PINK CAT, PURPLE COW!!!!
Now Download IE 8
Microsoft is proclaiming Internet Explorer 8 (IE
finished and will be releasing the final bits for download on March 19.
Microsoft plans to make the bits available as of 9 a.m. PT on Thursday. Interested parties will be able to grab them from the Internet Explorer 8 Web site, officials said.
Update: The final IE 8 bits are downloadable now from here for Windows XP and Vista. The final version isn’t meant for installation on Windows 7.
Microsoft officials will launch officially IE 8 during the Mix ‘09 morning keynote on March 19.
There are very few changes between the Release Candidate (RC) IE 8 code that Microsoft delivered in January and the final bits, officials said.
Starting with the RC, Microsoft began offering users a downloadable Compatibility List of sites which automatically default to the older, non-standards-compliant version of Internet Explorer 7 in order to lessen compatibility problems with IE 8. Since January, Microsoft has tweaked that list a bit, removing sites which have since updated so as to work properly with the more standards-centric IE 8, and adding new ones that aren’t standards-mode compliant. Otherwise, the tweaks to the product have been few.
Microsoft is planning to push IE 8 to users via its automatic updating mechanisms, but has yet to set a date as to when it will do so. In the interim, downloading the IE 8 code from Microsoft’s Web site will be the way interested users can obtain the latest release of the Microsoft browser.
Microsoft also plans to bundle IE 8 with Windows 7 when that operating system is launched, most likely later this year. Recently, officials said they plan to offer users the option of “removing” IE 8 from Windows 7 in order to try to head off antitrust punishments likely to be doled out by the European Commission overseeing the Opera browser-bundling complaint against Microsoft.

[UPDATED] Yahoo’s Messenger in FaceBook – Official
Earlier I wrote about how Google is getting addicted to Twitter. Now Yahoo getting addicted to FaceBook. Yahoo officially releases a facebook application to access yahoo messenger in facebook.
To add a Pingbox to your page, visit the Yahoo! Messenger Pingbox application page on Facebook. The same customization tools are available in the Facebook version, so you can personalize your online and offline greeting, choose from dozens of designs, and if you wish, require your visitors to give themselves a nickname before they can IM you.
With the Pingbox app, your friends can IM you from your profile page even when you’re not on Facebook.
Earlier this week I wrote about how to add Yahoo Messenger to your Facebook profile. It’ll enable the profile visitors to chat with you via yahoo messenger, even though they are not signed into Yahoo Messenger.
People have complained yahoo that they are always shown as offline even when they are online. This is because your Yahoo! network presence being set to show you as offline.
To fix it, be sure you’re logged into the Yahoo! network (e.g. you see your name up at the top of a Yahoo! page) and then click the link below. Hitting that link will toggle your online presence back to “on”. Your Pingbox will then show you as being available when you’re online in Yahoo! Messenger. Note that you’ll only show as online in your Pingbox when you’re signed into Yahoo! Messenger 9.0, Yahoo! Messenger for Mac, or Yahoo! Messenegr for the Web. Signing in on a mobile device or to IM in Yahoo! Mail will not show you as available on your Pingbox.
IMPORTANT: Changing your Yahoo! network presence to online also means that you will be shown as online within other Yahoo! sites such as Yahoo! Groups, message boards etc. – anywhere the online presence indicator (
/
) appears within different Yahoo! products.
http://presence.msg.yahoo.com/edit/config/edit_identity?.set=1&.opi=0
Note: After you click the above link, you’ll be taken to a blank, white page. That is by design. You won’t see any visual confirmation of the change.
Facebook is now Twitter

Facebook is so desperate to become a one solution point for the needs of a typical internet user. They’ve incorporated Photo sharing feature (to compete against flickr, photobucker, imagestack etc.), Video uploading feature (YouTube, Yahoo Video, DailyMotion etc.), and thousands of applications to meet the requirements of a user.
Later they’ve done several initiations to copy twitter. On top of all they’ve announced API for status update in Facebook. Now they’ve come up with a interface which is much similar to Twitter.
It seems not only Chinese manufactures who copy products from rightful without owner without their approval. Even Facebook does.
How to Move a Domain from Godaddy
I wanted to renew my domain so I went to Godaddy and tried to pay the money via PayPal. I was totally disappointed that Godaddy will accept only the PayPal accounts which has a credit card attached to it. Though I had some balance in my PayPal account I couldn’t pay the money.
Godaddy is growing, but they are losing their customers because of their poor customer care. Already many people are complaining about the poor hosting service provided by Godaddy. It will take ages to get a support from Godaddy’s customer care.
So I decided to transfer my domain from Godaddy to NameCheap. To initiate the transfer process you need to provide the EPP code to NameCheap. EPP code is a security code which used to identify the owner of the domain.
If you write to Godaddy and asked them for the EPP code, I’m sure they’ll fuss around. You can manually get the EPP code from your Godaddy control panel.
Login to GoDaddy. Go into the domain management section and select your domain. Then you will see down in the bottom left corner of the screen a line that says Authorization Code: Send By Email. Click the Send by Email link and follow the onscreen prompts. Then GoDaddy will send you your EPP code to the email address you have registered as your Technical Contact for your domain. Next I cut and pasted that EPP code into the namecheap.com domain transfer status screen.
After that you need to release the lock in Godaddy, so that it’ll get transfer to the new domain registrar. In my case NameCheap.
This is also a good time to make sure that your domain is unlocked at GoDaddy. When your domain is locked GoDaddy has a good excuse to not let the transfer to go through. After that I got a mail from Godaddy saying that, my request to transfer my domain was received and still I can cancel the transfer and stay with Godaddy. Who cares? Who wanted to stay with loser? In this case you need to approve the transfer in Godaddy control panel. Or else it’ll take more time to transfer from Godaddy to new domain registrar.
If you do as I said above you could transfer your domain in hours. Otherwise it’ll take around 8 days to complete the process.
To force the transfer
- To do this, log in to your GoDaddy account.
- Click on the Domains tab and select Pending Transfers. You should see your site listed.
- Select the check box next to your site and click the Accept/Decline button a the top toolbar.
- Choose accept and click the OK button.
- Now your transfer will continue without waiting the three days!
As mentioned in NameCheap site, these are the main steps for domain transfer!
- Step 1: User adds the domains that needs to be transferred and completes checkout
- Step 2: If EPP Key (Authorization Key) is required, then an email with EPP request is sent. You can also enter the EPP key by going to My Account > Manager Transfers and clicking on the domain just after completing the order without waiting. (To obtain an EPP key, please contact your current registrar.)
- Step 3: If Step 2 is completed or not required, then the domain is submitted for transfer.
- Step 4: An email containing a link is sent to ‘Administrator Email’ for the domain.
- Step 5: If user click on the link and approves the transfer, the domain name is transferred to Us.
- Step 6: If the domain named is ‘locked’ at the losing registrar, the registrar lock should be removed before proceeding with the transfer. An email is sent if the lock needs to be removed.
- Step 7: When the domain is unlocked, the transfer completes successfully
Now I successfully moved my domain to NameCheap. And I was surprised by their customer care. They take only few hours to reply my questions personally. I’m glad I’m with a superb domain registrar, and hope I can spend rest of my life with NameCheap.
GoDaddy go to hell!
PS: It was written few months back, brought it up again thinking that it’ll help more people.
Change Country in PayPal
If you ever want to change your country in PayPal, forget it. You’re not allowed to change the country your account. If you really wanna change your country in profile then you have to close your account and open an account again with the same email address.
Recently one of my friends came back to Sri Lanka after finishing in Masters in USA. He just wanted to change his country to Sri Lanka, so he wrote a letter to PayPal. As I said earlier they want him to close his account and open a new account.
If you wanna know how you can withdraw money from unverified PayPal account, check out my Easy Steps to Withdraw Money to Sri Lankan Bank.
I do apologize
for the inconvenience this issue may have caused you. I understand that you would want ton change the country in your account and add a new credit card on your new account having the Sri Lanka as the country. When changing your street address, you will be unable to change your country of residence, as PayPal currently does not have a feature where you can add addresses from multiple countries on the same PayPal
account. The only way to change the country of residence is to open a new PayPal account, and select your country of residence during the sign up process. Please note that an email address can only be used on one active PayPal account at a time. If you want to use the same email address on your new account, you will first have to close your existing PayPal account
however, since you still have balance in this account, I would suggest that you have to initiate a check withdrawal for you to get the money in your PayPal account balance.Members registered from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Ecuador, India, Jamaica, or Uruguay can request a check to be mailed to the address on their PayPal Account by following these instructions:
1. Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com/
2. Click the ‘Withdraw’ subtab
3. Click ‘Request a check from PayPal’
4. Enter the amount
5. Select the address the check is to be mailed to using the
pull-down menu6. Click ‘Continue’
7. Review the confirmation page
8. Click ‘Submit’
When you request a check, it will take 4-6 business days to process the request and prepare the check to be mailed. Postal delivery time is additional and varies depending on your country of residence.
Please note:
· PayPal has no control over postal delivery times
· Check delivery may be delayed by government holidays in both the
U.S. and in your home country
· PayPal is not responsible for inaccurately entered mailing
informationOnce you receive the check for your withdrawal that is the time to close
the account so that you will be able to use the same email address and
create an account under Sri Lanka. To close your PayPal account, please follow these steps:

New Generation iPod Shuffles are out!!!
Are you ready for the NEXT GENERATION OF IPOD SHUFFLE?????? Yeah, finally Apple has announced new type of iPod shuffle. Most interesting feature of this product is in-built voice over feature. It’s been a problem for iPod shuffle users to check out the song title, artists as they don’t have display panel. Unlike iPod Nano, shuffle had no display panel. You can use this voice over feature to listen song titles, artist names etc.
It has controls near the ear bud. You can increase volume, browse track, create play lists using this handy control.
Above all you can also create play lists as per your interest. New iPod shuffle is half a size of previous iPod shuffle but it can hold up to 1000 songs as it has 4GB built in memory.
Check out whole set of dazzling features of iPod Shuffle by yourself
As usual, it’ll take time to reach Sri Lankan market or else we need to risk by going eBay. Apple is not shipping their products to Sri Lanka, probably legal issues.
Earn More from AdSense by Whiping out MFAs
Today it’s almost impossible to see a single site or blog without Google Adsense ads. Many people were tried to compete with Google’s Adsense, such as Yahoo, Microsoft etc, but no one was able to catch up with Google Adsense.
Adsense is a great tool, but you need to tweak it to make maximum out of it. You might have heart about MFA (Made for Adsense) sites. Their content is targeting some high paying keywords. They managed to get ads which pay more than $5 per click.
These evil MFA sites buy cheap ads from Google (using Adword) and drive traffic to their sites. For example take I have a MFA site. I subscribe to Google Adword and choose to pay $0.1 for one click. My ad will appear in a site, when a visitor of the site clicks on my ad they’ll be directed to my site. This will cost me $0.1 only. This visitor who came to my site might click on an ad on my site where I’ll make $5.
Let’s do some math, $5 – $0.1 = 4.9. I make $4.9 by spending $0.1. Some case it’ll go upto $50. It’s so unfair. Isn’t it?
These MFA sites will end up stealing our traffic for such low price. We’ll gain only $0.1 for a click. We must find out and wipe of these stupid evils out of our site. Then only we can make decent amount of money from Adsense.
Google don’t take much concern about this matter as they’re earning in both ways. They don’t care as long as they earn just like a WHORE.
We can use Google AdSense’s competitive ad filter feature to bring down those ugly MFAs.
But how to get the list of MFA sites??? Don’t worry http://www.adsblacklist.com is coming into action to help you out. I used this site and got 133 potential MFA sites which may suck traffic out of my blog and leave few pennies. They track down MFAs specific to your site using the keywords you provide about your site.
Once you got the list, go to Adsense and click on AdSense Setup tab. Now click on Competitive Ad Filter and list your sites on the given text box. Within 12 hours Google will stop showing ads from these sites and it’ll show genuine sites.
This is only just a step. New MFAs will come every day and will eat your traffic. Time to time we have to check and block those people from our site.
